A board in El Paso has approved spending more than $4 million to drill nine El Paso water wells south of Interstate 10 to better meet water demand.
The El Paso Times (http://bit.ly/LWQgRA ) reports the Public Service Board also agreed Wednesday to explore buying water from farmers in response to dry conditions.
The board approved El Paso Water Utilities starting a $3.8 million project to transport water from areas of the city with more plentiful water into the drier lower valley region.
CEO Ed Archuleta says the utility has a capacity for a peak daily demand of about 175 million gallons. He says the problem is water distribution.
An engineering company will be hired to design a pipeline to take water from the central part of the city to the lower valley.
