(New Braunfels, TX) — Our forecast this week calls for more hot, dry, windy weather…conditions perfect to push South-Central Texas into Stage 2 Water Restrictions. And NBU says you should start preparing now for those stricter water usage rules.
During Stage 2, landscape watering using a sprinkler or irrigation system will only be permitted one day per week according to the last digit of the customer’s address. Communications Manager for NBU, Gretchen Reuwer, says the rains early this year raised hopes among many that the drought might be nearing an end, but this is not the case.
Industry experts estimate that approximately 50% of residential water use is being used for landscaping and other outdoor activities, and NBU says this is an area where significant reductions have to be made by everyone.
The most current reading from the Edward’s Aquifer J-17 well, as of early this morning, was at 650.2 feet, just inches above the trigger level, with a 10-day rolling average at 652-feet, just 2-feet above the trigger for Stage 2 New Braunfels water restrictions.
