Water Well Pumps

I f you are replacing an existing water well pumps, picking the right one is pretty simple.  If this a new install, picking the right one is critical.  This is not something that you want to pick the cheapest one on a list of water well pumps.  You chose the right pump by determining the wells depth.  It will be in well driller report and if you don’t have that you can tie something to the end of a string and measure the length once you get to water.   You can use a shallow well jet pump.  Anything deeper you want to go with with either a deep well jet pump or a submersible pump.  The submersible pump is preferred for greater well depths.

If you haven’t already determined your demand you will need to do that now.  You can do that by counting all your faucets and multiply that by a gallon per minute or you can determine peak by multiplying the amount of fixtures that would be running at the same time by 3 gallons per minute.  The last way is by multiplying the number of bathrooms by 4 gallons per minute.  Take the largest number and you have your demand.  The pumps are rated 3 ways:

Gallons per minute (GPM)- described above, measures demand

Horsepower (HP)- deeper the well, the  more horsepower needed (3 HP usually highest needed)

Voltage- Match it to the power ran to the unit

20 GPM
